Like the old days

imageSometimes, I think my dad cannot live without TV. He uses our Montgomery direct tv every day. There is nothing wrong with that obviously, but it just seems like he does not know what to do with himself if the power goes out. It is funny to me how different things are today. It used to be the norm to have candlelit evenings filled with conversation, reading or maybe just silence. I always picture the movie Pride and Prejudice whenever the power goes it. They use candles throughout the movie and the main character, Elizabeth, spends all her free time reading. It is a romantic idea in some respects and just so different from our day-to-day lives now. I really could not imagine my dad just sitting and reading all day long. He just does not have the attention span it seems for that slow, quiet activity. I wonder if I do either, though. It really is so different from how we spend out time now. When my friends and I want something easy to do, we definitely turn on the TV. It is the cheapest and most entertaining activity for some poor college students.
